Did you know that March 25th is International Waffle Day? I didn't...Let me start at the beginning on how this came to be known in our house....
A short while ago I was reading an article (either through an online blog or a magazine, I can't remember) about a family who started celebrating the "Everyday Holidays", and I thought to myself "This would be a blast and something the kids would love!" So, I did a little research on Sunday and found out that today was International Waffle Day. I looked at Ray and started sharing with him my great idea to celebrate the "Everyday Holidays" and what a perfect day to start with International Waffle Day. Then, the brainstorming started with decorations and making a little bit of a big deal out of it. He informed me that he could think of more productive ways to spend the day. I informed him that I thought it was pretty productive, putting smiles on the kids' faces without much effort. He really didn't have a comeback for that but got the "Huh, she has a point" kind of look. And I thought to myself "Oh yeah, gottcha!" So, throughout the day things just kind of came together with my planning....first it was the centerpiece which came together when I found the clip-art pictured above. I printed out 8 of these little squares, glued them onto cardstock, and then found some sticks out in the backyard to tape the squares to. Then, I found a face and added a gold bag I found in the present wrapping holder thingy and here you have a fun, cheap, cute decoration for International Waffle Day!
The best was when I kept it from the kids. They kept asking what was for dinner and I told them it was a suprise. So, they spent a good hour guessing different things. Finally, Sean asked me "Would you tell us if we get it right?" and I responded with "Nope!" They had the best time trying to figure out what we were having. They were then informed that they had to relocate to the basement while I got dinner ready. When their chocolate chip waffles with lots of different colored sprinkles were on the table, I called them up! They laughed when they walked into the dining room and seen their dinner with Mom cheering "Happy International Waffle Day!"
And you might just laugh if you knew that all three of the kids were wearing their pajamas while they were eating their waffle dinner!
During dinner, I started to fill them in on what was going on and that I had found a family that started celebrating the "Everday Holidays" and thought it would be something fun for our family to do. The kids got all excited and wanted to know what tomorrow's holiday was. (I looked it up, it's "Make Your Own Holiday Day.") Now, we have something fun to look forward to everyday. And yes, while realistically it's going to be impossible to do some of these, I think it will be fun for us to try! So here's hoping that you have had a Happy Waffle Day!
